At C&R Construction, we provide complete design, fabrication, and construction packages for all types of steel-framed buildings and a wide range of other projects. As our business continues to grow, we are looking to expand our team across several areas.

Please note that our office is based in Coldridge, Mid Devon, and we are only considering applicants who live in, or can reliably commute around, Devon, Cornwall, or Somerset.

We offer a competitive hourly rate, based on your experience and discussed during the interview process. In addition, overtime opportunities are available, with an enhanced rate of pay for hours worked beyond 40 each week.

All experience levels will be considered — what matters most is motivation, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Training will be provided for enthusiastic individuals eager to develop their skills and embrace new challenges.

 Workshop Operative / Yardsman / Punch Machine Operator

Purpose of Role:

To assist in the overall production and despatch of steel framed buildings fabricated in our workshop. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining various machinery used in the production process. The Operative will play a crucial part in ensuring that production targets are met while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

To assist with general workshop production including assisting with deliveries, using hand tools, maintenance checks on equipment, stock control, maintaining a clean and organised work environment conducting general workshop housekeeping duties, and operating lifting gear and machinery when required.

Person Specification:

  • Preferably already have experience working within a workshop or production environment.
  • Heavy lifting and manual handling are required. Training provided.
  • Preferably already have Counterbalance forklift licence and experience.
  • Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and team focus.
  • Must be good at time keeping and be reliable.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, listening and communication skills.
  • Commitment to producing high quality work is required.
  • A calm, level-headed approach, working well under pressure.
  • Must have a valid driving licence due to the location of the
  • Familiarity with welding techniques and metal fabrication.

Workshop Foreman

Steel Erector / Cladder

Purpose of Role:

You will be responsible for erecting and cladding steel framed buildings for Agricultural and Industrial projects. The candidates will form part of an existing team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Contracts Manager, the key duties and responsibilities for these roles include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for erecting steel structures and buildings.
  • The installation of various cladding systems to drawings, including composite, single skin, build up systems, including all flashings and associated items.
  • Carry out the installation of precast panels.
  • Examine drawings and specifications to assess job requirements.
  • Organise materials, plant checks and completion of documents i.e., completing weekly timesheets.
  • Liaise with the Contracts Manager on work and site activities and safety updates and issues.
  • Monitor situations to make adjustments to maintain quality and complete all contracts and projects within agreed time frames and schedules.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations and on-site procedures.
  • Ensure site areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and tidy manner at all times.
  • Safely operate site plant and high-level access equipment, complete, and record checks and report defects when necessary.
  • Assist with general ad hoc duties as and when required.

Person Specification:

  • Preferably already have an existing proven track record of erecting steel-framed buildings and installing cladding systems to a high standard.
  • Must be a self-motivated team member with a proactive attitude towards work.
  • Preferably hold valid site cards (i.e. CSCS, IPAF, SMSTS, First Aid, Telehandler).
  • Must have good physical fitness, ability to work well in a team & be able to follow instruction.
  • Possess the ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Have an understanding of health and safety, manual handling and working at height regulations. Although regular training is provided by the company.
  • Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will need to hold a valid driving licence and be will be willing to commute.

Work Location: In Person, South West Based.

Welder / Fabricator & Making Sheeted Doors

Purpose of Role:

You will be responsible for reading project fabrication drawings and welding steel framed buildings for Agricultural and Industrial projects, as well as sheeting doors and other steel structures as required for construction on our sites.

Person Specification:

  • Must be reliable, hardworking, able to work by themselves and as part of a successful and friendly team.
  • Preferably already familiar with and able to work from GA drawings.
  • Must have attention to detail and the ability to use a variety of workshop tools and equipment.
  • Preferably have existing experience with using and maintain workshop tools and equipment.
  • Preferably already MIG coded.
  • Due to the location of this position, the successful candidate will need to hold a valid driving licence and be will be willing to commute to our rurally based workshop. There is no public transport facility to our site.

Work Location: In Person, EX17 6AS.

Concrete Finisher / Groundworker

Purpose of Role:

The successful candidate will be working with the latest technology such as laser screeding, power floating and bobcat grading.

Person Specification:

  • Experience with concrete, drainage, groundwork, excavator/telehandler operating would be preferred but full training provided.
  • Must have good physical fitness, ability to work well in a team & be able to follow instruction.
  • Preferably already have experience with working on construction sites and using plant and concreting equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be able to perform concrete finishing tasks including smoothing, levelling, and finishing freshly poured concrete.
  • Be able to use hand and power tools to achieve desired finishes on concrete surfaces.
  • Be able to perform well as part of a team to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to high standards.
